Privacy Policy
Where the app and the website work differently, the policy says so with a App or Website label. Anything without a label applies to both.
1. Who we are
Flick : 4k HD Live Wallpapers ("Flick") is made up of the Android app on Google Play ("the app") and the website flickwallpaper.com ("the website"), both developed and operated by Vinayak AI Studio ("we", "us"). If you have a privacy question, email [email protected] or [email protected].
2. What we do not collect
- No phone number, contacts, call log, SMS, microphone or camera access.
- No location permission in the app, and no location request on the website. (Google's advertising and analytics services may estimate a rough region from your IP address, as explained in sections 6 and 7.)
- No upload of your own photos. App When you set one of your photos as a wallpaper, cropping, effects and subject cut-out all happen on your phone.
- No passwords and no payment details. Flick has nothing to buy, and sign-in goes through Google.
- Our own backend never stores your name. It stores your email address only if you sign in (see section 5.2).
3. Permissions the app uses App
| Permission | Why it's needed |
|---|---|
| Internet | To load wallpapers, sync your library and show ads |
| Set wallpaper | To apply a wallpaper to your home screen, lock screen or both |
| Storage (Android 12 and below only) | Only when you tap Download, to save that file to your gallery. Android 13 and later don't need this permission. |
| Photo picker | Only when you choose your own photo as a wallpaper. The app sees only the photo you pick. |
| Notifications (Android 13+) | Only if you turn on new-wallpaper notifications |
| Live wallpaper service | To run Flick's live and motion wallpapers after you pick them in Android's wallpaper picker |
You can turn off any of these permissions in Android Settings → Apps → Flick → Permissions. Website The website asks for only one browser permission: notifications, and only if you turn them on (section 5.4).
4. Data kept on your device
4.1 In the app App
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Favourites, collections, recently viewed and applied wallpapers | So your library works offline |
| Your taste profile (which categories, colours and styles you tend to like) | To personalise the wallpapers you see. It is worked out and stored on your phone and is never uploaded. |
| Settings (theme, download quality, notifications, auto-change schedule, live-wallpaper options) | To reopen the app the way you left it |
| Downloaded, offline and home-screen widget wallpapers, plus cached images | Faster browsing, less mobile data, offline use |
| Photos you choose as a wallpaper | Cropping and on-device effects |
On-device processing: subject cut-out for depth effects uses Google ML Kit, which runs on your phone. The images are not sent to us or to Google. To erase all of this, uninstall the app or go to Android Settings → Apps → Flick → Storage → Clear data.
4.2 On the website Website
The website saves data in your browser's local storage, not in cookies: favourites, collections, download and viewing history, interests you picked, theme and layout choices, a small cache of wallpaper details, and your sign-in and notification tokens if you use those features. This data stays in your browser. Only the parts listed in section 5 are sent to our servers, and only when you use the feature that needs them. To remove it, sign out and clear this site's data in your browser settings.
Cookies: our own code does not set any cookies. Google's advertising, analytics and sign-in services may set their own cookies, as described in sections 5.2, 6 and 7. An offline copy of the website's pages is stored by its service worker so recently seen pages load faster.
5. Data processed on our servers
The backend shared by the app and the website runs on Cloudflare (Workers, D1 database and R2 file storage). The website itself is hosted by Hostinger.
5.1 Whenever you use Flick
- Request data. Each request includes your IP address, the app or browser type, and the time. We use this to deliver wallpapers, to prevent abuse (rate limits), and to count each person only once in download, view and favourite counts. To recognise a returning visitor for those counts we store a one-way hash of the IP address, never the address itself. Rate-limit records are deleted within a day. Website When website pages fetch wallpapers on your behalf, they pass your IP address to our backend only for rate limiting. Hostinger also keeps standard web-server logs (IP address, pages requested, browser type, time) for security and troubleshooting.
- Usage events App. The app sends events such as wallpaper viewed, applied, favourited, downloaded or shared, search performed and category opened. Each event includes the wallpaper or category involved, a random session ID that changes every time the app starts, a random install ID, the app version and the platform. The install ID is created by the app the first time it opens; it is not your device ID or advertising ID, and a new one is made if you reinstall the app or clear its data. It lets us count downloads, applied wallpapers and ads per installation. Ad events record which kind of ad was shown (banner, full-screen or rewarded), whether it was tapped, and Google's estimate of what that one ad earned. If the app hits an unexpected error, it also sends the first line of the technical error message. Events are not linked to your name or email unless you are signed in (section 5.2), and they are deleted after about 13 months.
- Downloads Website. The website does not send usage events to our servers, except that each download is recorded with the wallpaper, the time and a one-way hash of your IP address, so we can count downloads per visitor. Deleted after about 13 months. (Page views are counted separately by Google Analytics; see section 6.)
5.2 If you sign in with Google (optional)
Sign-in in both the app and the website uses Google Sign-In and Firebase Authentication. Google holds your name, email address, profile photo and a user ID, and Flick shows your name and photo on your profile. Our own servers store your user ID and your email address (so we can tell accounts apart in our admin tools and answer you if you write to us). We attach the user ID to your usage events, synced library and the other optional features below that you use while signed in. The same Google account signs you in to both, so your data follows you between them.
5.3 Library sync
Signed-in users can sync favourites and collections between their devices, the app and the website. We store the synced copy against your user ID: which wallpapers are in your favourites and collections, your collection names, and when items were added or removed.
5.4 Notifications (optional)
If you turn on new-wallpaper notifications in the app or allow notifications on the website, Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) gives your device or browser a notification token. We store that token with your platform, app version and, if you're signed in, your user ID. If you turn notifications off, we delete the token from our servers. You can also block notifications at any time in Android or browser settings.
5.7 Things you choose to send us
- Wallpaper requests: the text you write, plus your user ID if you're signed in.
- Content reports: the wallpaper, the reason and any note you add, plus your user ID if you're signed in.
- Shared collection links: the collection title and the wallpapers in it. Anyone with the link can view it.
- Emails to us (support, copyright or deletion requests): your email address and whatever you write, used only to handle your request.
App When you share a wallpaper, the app creates the image on your phone and passes it to the app you choose through Android's share menu. We don't see who you share it with.
6. Google services used for display, updates and statistics
- App The app uses Google Play's in-app review and in-app update features to occasionally ask for a rating or to offer an update. Google handles these directly, so we never see your review or your Google Play account.
- Website The website loads fonts from Google Fonts and the Firebase sign-in and notification code from Google's servers (gstatic.com). As with any file download, your browser sends Google your IP address and browser type when it loads them.
- Website Google Analytics. The website uses Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages are used, so we can improve the site. Google Analytics sets cookies (names beginning
_ga) that recognise your browser by a random ID, and records the pages you view, how you arrived (for example from a search engine or a link), your browser, device type and screen size, and a rough location (country and city) that Google works out from your IP address. Google Analytics does not store the IP address itself. We see only aggregated reports, not individual visitors, and we do not link Analytics data to your Flick account. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies for this site.
7. Advertising
7.1 In the app: Google AdMob App
The free version of the app shows ads from Google AdMob. AdMob may collect your device's advertising ID, your IP address and a rough location worked out from it, device information, and how you interact with ads. Google uses this to show and measure ads and to prevent fraud. You can reset or delete your advertising ID, and opt out of personalised ads, in Android Settings → Google → Ads (or Settings → Privacy → Ads, depending on your phone). In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the app asks for your consent before showing personalised ads. You can change your choice at any time in Profile → About → Ad privacy choices. AdMob is covered by Google's own terms: how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services.
7.2 On the website: Adsterra Website
The website shows ads from the Adsterra advertising network. Its code is loaded on every page, where it shows banner ads, small notification-style ads inside the page. The "Sponsored" link in the footer also leads to an Adsterra ad. To choose, deliver and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Adsterra and its advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies, and receive your IP address and a rough location worked out from it, browser and device information, the page you are viewing, and how you interact with the ads. Adult ads are switched off in our Adsterra settings. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Adsterra's own privacy policy, on adsterra.com, explains how it handles this data.
8. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. These service providers help us run Flick:
- Cloudflare: backend hosting, database and file storage.
- Hostinger: website hosting.
- Google: Google Sign-In and Firebase Authentication (sign-in), Firebase Cloud Messaging (notifications), Google Play (reviews and updates), AdMob (advertising in the app), Google Analytics (website statistics), and Google Fonts.
- Adsterra: advertising on the website.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
9. How long we keep data
- Usage events and download logs: about 13 months, then deleted automatically.
- Rate-limit records: about one day.
- Google Analytics data (website): kept by Google for at most 14 months.
- Website server logs: kept by Hostinger for a limited time, under its standard log settings.
- Data linked to your account (email address, synced library, requests, reports, notification tokens): until you delete your account.
- Data on your device or in your browser: until you clear it, uninstall the app or clear the site's data.
10. Deleting your account and your rights
One account covers both the app and the website, and deleting it removes its data from both.
- In the app: Profile → Account → Delete account.
- On the website: sign in and delete your account from your profile, or use flickwallpaper.com/delete-account. That page also works if you no longer have the app.
- By email: write to us from the address linked to your Google account.
Deleting your account erases everything on our servers that is linked to your user ID (stored email address, library, requests, reports, usage events, shared links and notification tokens) and deletes your Firebase sign-in account.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under the GDPR (EU/UK), the CCPA/CPRA (California) or India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. These can include the right to access, correct, delete or object to the use of your data. Email us and we will reply within 30 days. Requests about advertising data are handled by Google through your Google Account settings.
11. Children's privacy
Flick is for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Security
All traffic between the app, the website and our backend is encrypted with HTTPS/TLS. We never handle passwords or payment details.
13. Third-party content and links
Ads and some wallpaper credits may link to other apps or websites that we don't control. Their own privacy policies apply to them.
14. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the app or the website changes. The "Last updated" date at the top always shows the current version, and we point out significant changes in the app's release notes on Google Play.
